The degree of blessing enjoyed by any man will correspond exactly with the completeness of God’s victory over him.
– A.W. Tozer
This journey of surrender to God is long, perhaps painful and difficult in places, but hopefully brings us closer to our first Love, our Creator, our Saviour, our Lord. Isn’t it encouraging, that He sees us for exactly who we are, and knows every element of our lives, and yet still loves us infinitely and longs for us to know and love Him more?
It is wonderful that we can give ourselves wholly to Him and that He accepts us as we are, as a pleasing offering. We do not need to come to Him with fancy words or wearing our ‘Sunday best’, or acting in a way that is not true to who we are, to try to impress Him. We come as we are, and He loves it. We give ourselves to Him as we are, and He is delighted. What an honour, to belong to Him.
Lay before Him what is in us, not what ought to be in us.
– C.S. Lewis, Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer
We have considered in some detail many specific elements of our lives, and surrendered those into His hands. Now is the time to bring before Him ‘any other business’. What else is there in our lives, or in our minds, that we have yet to give over to Him? What have we been perhaps reluctant to offer Him – and what are the things that we have not yet thought to give Him?
A situation? A person? Something from the past, or the future? Some other area of our lives, which we have not yet surrendered to Him? Let us bring those to mind, and give them now completely into His hands, that He may challenge and teach and inspire and bless us, leading us in His ways and bringing us closer to Himself.
Worship is the submission of all our nature to God. It is the quickening of conscience by his holiness, the nourishment of the mind with his truth, the purifying of the imagination of his beauty, the opening of the heart to his love, the surrender of the will to his purpose.
– William Temple
So let us now cast ourselves wholly on Him. Let go. Jump off the edge and into His arms. Hold nothing back. We are His creatures, belonging to Him and living for His purposes. May we be like infants in the womb, entirely dependent on Him and permanently aware of Him, seeking Him alone and in need of His nourishment for our life and growth.
Oh, God, how I need You.
I come to You as I am and give myself to You now.
Have Your way in me.
